Thousands of Friday prayer worshippers in different cities in Pakistan held rallies to slam the recent arrest of Shia activist and former senator Reza Abedi.
Muslim scholars and religious figures were among the demonstrators who stressed that Abedi has been detained while hundreds of criminals and terrorists remain free.
They also condemned the martyrdom at a police station in Baluchistan of a Shia woman who was on his way to Iraq’s holy city of Karbala for pilgrimage.
They said the Baluchistan government has failed to ensure the security of pilgrims, noting also that thousands of Pakistani Arbaeen pilgrims are facing numerous problems in the province on their way to Iraq.
Millions of Shia pilgrims from around the world will be in Karbala next week for Arbaeen.
Arbaeen comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS).
