Imam Sadeq (AS) was asked:

What is the best way of reaching comfort? Imam (AS) replied: Opposing inordinate desires of the soul [1]. In another narration, Imam Sadeq (AS) was asked: Why God granted wisdom to Luqman and why he became such a noble and valued human being? Imam (AS) started his reply by pointing to the ways Luqman lived and his good behaviour, and then continued by saying: Luqman was a thinker and used to take heed, and learned ways of dominating inordinate desires of the soul, and protecting himself from mischief of Satan. For this reason God granted wisdom and protection from sins to Luqman [2].
