Imam Ali (AS) narrated from the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) who said:

Avoid the courts of oppressing kings and rulers and people who are close to them. The furthest of you from God, is the one who prefers a ruler to God. And whoever does so, Allah (SWT) kills his/her heart and this affects deeds and intention, and causes piety and righteousness to disappear and leaves such a person in wonderment and perplexed [1].
