Among 32 countries, The Library and House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine was chosen to present its research in the 84th World Congress of Libraries and Information in Malaysia.
In the 84th World Congress of Libraries and Information, organized by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in the Malaysian capital under the theme : (Transfer of libraries’ work; the way to transform communities) held to shed the light on the influential role played by libraries in changing and developing societies and nations, The Library and House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas’s (p) Holy Shrine has presented a word.
More than 110 countries from around the world participated in this congress represented by more than 3500 people. The representatives of 32 countries were given the opportunity to give a word, and this was the first time that Iraq is represented in such event and get the chance to present its word, and the second time at the level of Arab countries after Qatar.
The representative of the library delegation, Mr. Hussain Adel, spoke in English on the subject of “Iraqi Libraries after ISIS” with a video presentation, shedding the light on the central library of Mosul University and its destruction and burning by the extremist ISIS terrorism and the role of the library of the al-Abbas’s (p) holy shrine to revive the library of the University of Mosul and find ways to prevent such crises through the introduction of its national project for the preservation of the Iraqi scientific heritage, which focuses on how to save cultural and intellectual publications through the digitization of books, thesis, and old university publications and convert them into an electronic format.
Once Mr. Hussain finished his presentation, all the attendees applauded for the fact that most of them did not know the truth, and talking about this subject was an opportunity to discover these facts.
It is to note that the IFLA conference, which covers a wide range of topics, is witnessing a distinguished presence of library and information specialists from around the world each year. The conference is organized this year by the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), the Malaysian Library Association and the National Library of Malaysia, with the support of the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Malaysia Office of Exhibitions and Conferences. The participation of the Library and House of Manuscripts of the al-Abbas’s (p) holy shrine is the first Iraqi participation in this conference.
