The sixth annual Islamophobia Conference will be held by the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) on December 14, 2019.

The conference will discuss the different ways the civil society space has shrunk, with a particular focus on Muslim civil society organisations and how Islamophobia is driving much of this.

Panelists will also discuss what strategies can be employed to counter and stop the delegitimization and silencing of civil society organisations.

Whether it is the demonization of immigrant communities in America, religious minorities in India or pro-Palestinian NGOs promoting BDS in Germany, powerful groups are using the state, media and group violence to silence and suppress those they oppose.

The common factor in attacks against Muslims participating in civil society is the attempt to delegitimise them by measuring them against loaded definitions of extremism. It is character assassination dressed up as research. The aim is to panic society into reconsidering its association with Muslim organisations. Unless challenged, the Islamophobic ideas underpinning these campaigns will become normalised.

Islamophobia Conference 2019 confirmed speakers include Haim Bresheeth, Narzanin Massoumi, Ramón Grosfoguel and Raza Kazim.

The event will be from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday 14th December, 2019.

This event will hold at P21 Gallery, 21 Chalton Street, Kings Cross, London NW1 1JD.

The conference is organised by IHRC in association with a similar conference on the same day in Glasgow. This is the fifth year in which Scotland Against Criminalising Communities (SACC) and IHRC have held a Scottish conference on Islamophobia in association with conferences in London and elsewhere in Europe.

Islamophobia Scottish Conference 2019 will hold at Renfield Centre, 260 Bath Street, Glasgow , G2 4JP.
