Mourning rituals in commemoration of Imam Hussain (AS) were observed in Span's capital Madrid for the first time.
The mourning groups in Madrid started the rituals from Atocha Square and rallied toward Cibeles Square while chanting elegies and carrying flags commemorating Imam Hussian's (AS) martyrdom.
Spain's Police also cooperated with the mourning people to facilitate the Ashura processions; The Police blocked the most prominent street in Madrid, Castellana Street, for the mourners.
People from different countries, including Spain, Iraq, Azerbaijan Republic, Pakistan, and Iran, participated in the rituals.
On the sidelines of the rituals also, a group of the Iranian students and Shia youth distributed brochures about Imam Hussain's (AS) uprising and the philosophy of Ashura.
Being held for the first time in Spain's capital Madrid and coordinated with the municipal and Police authorities, Ashura mourning processions attracted the Spanish society.
More than 1,300 years ago, in 680 AD, Imam Hussein [AS], a grandson of Islam's Prophet Muhammad [PBUH], and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger Army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
Monday, August 8, 2022, is Muharram 10 or Ashura day, 1444 AH;
And people are still mourning the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain since 13 centuries ago.
