Imam Sadeq (AS) narrated from his father who said:
My father Ali ibn Hussain (AS) told me: beware of five persons and do not accompany them, and do not socialize or travel with them. I said: Dear father, who are these people? My father replied:
- Avoid accompanying and friendship with a liar, because he/she is like a mirage which makes the far distance near to you and near far from you.
- Avoid friendship with the morally corrupt, because he/she will sell you for a mouthful of food or less than that.
- Avoid friendship with stingy person, because he/she does not help you with his/her wealth at the time when you need it most.
- Avoid friendship with ignorant, because he/she wants to benefit you, but due to his/her ignorance will cause a loss to you.
- Avoid friendship with the one who cuts relation with family and close relatives, because I found that in hundred places in the holy Quran such a person is cursed; such as Ayah 23 of Surah Mohammad, Ayah 24 Surah Ra’ad, and Ayah 27 Surah Baqarah [1].
