What is forbearance?

It is narrated from Imam Baqir (AS) who said:

What is forbearance?

The person who awaits and repeats the words of “Kalamatul Istirja” or calling back (we belong to Allah (SWT) and to Allah (SWT) we shall return), and at the time of calamity and difficulty praises God; then such a person is satisfied with God’s satisfaction and his/her rewards are granted by God. And the one who does not do this, his/her destiny will not change, and such person is admonished and his/her reward is destroyed [1].

One of the companions of Imam Hadi (AS) asked him about forbearance (patient self-control; restraint and tolerance). Imam Hadi (AS) replied: It means that in any condition you own your soul and control your anger and extinguish it, and this tolerance is when you are able to stand up against another person [2].
