What are the elements of wisdom?

Imam Ali (AS) narrated from the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) who said:

What are the elements of wisdom?

Four elements are needed for any wise person; the Prophet (PBUH) was asked: What are they? The Prophet (PBUH) replied: Listening and learning to knowledge and science, memorize and protect it in one’s mind and in all the Islamic society, spread it to all the interested parties, and act upon the gained knowledge [1].

In this narration, the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned that, one should listen to, and learns knowledge; wherever there is a scientific case which adds to awareness and information of an individual, should go and listen to and learn it. And then preserve it, in one’s memory, as well as in the Islamic society. In fact preserving knowledge is a duty, and this must not be neglected in the society.

And the third point is that, science and knowledge should spread in suitable places for all those who are seeking it. And the fourth case, is to act upon the gained knowledge; meaning when the human being learns about something useful, should utilize that knowledge in his/her life; otherwise it will be waste of effort and opportunity.
