UK’s Islamic Human Rights Council hosts discussion panel on book about Imam Ali

History and Traditions of the Earliest Copy of the Qur’an”, on Thursday June 20, 2019.

According to Shafaqna, The attendees will discuss the history of the text of the Qur’an from both Shia and Sunni schools of thought.

According to “In Search of Ali ibn Abi Talib’s Codex”, the history of the text of the holy Qur’an has been a longstanding subject of interests for Islamic researchers. The collection of the text began by the order of Caliph Abu Bakr and ended at the time of Caliph Uthman b. ‘Affan. But little has been paid attention to the collection of the text by the 4th Caliph and the First Shia Imam, Ali ibn Abi Talib. Professor Seyfeddin Kara has tried to examine both Shia and Sunni traditions on this issue in his book.

Seyfeddin Kara is the assistant professor of Shia studies and relations between Islamic schools of thought at Hartford Seminary, at the College of Hartford, Connecticut, the U.S.. He is also the holder of Imam Ali Chair for Shia studies and dialog among Islamic legal schools. Professor Kara was born and raised in Turkey but studies in seminaries in Syria, Iran and the United Kingdom.
