How to self-evaluate according to Imam Ali (AS)?

Someone asked: O’ Amiral Momeneen, how can a person self-evaluate himself/herself? Imam (AS) replied: In the morning and at night return to himself/herself and say: O’ my soul today has passed and will never come back, and God will ask you about it and the way you lost it. What have you done in a day? Have you remembered God? Have you thanked God? Have you fulfilled the needs of the believers? Have you alleviated a believer’s sorrow and grief? Have you protected a believer’s family in his/her absence? Have you looked after his descendants after his/her death? Have you prevented others to talk behind the back of a believer? Have you helped a Muslim? (Generally) What have you done in the past 24 hours? Then he/she remembers the tasks carried out in that day, and if has done a good deed, must thank God for the given opportunity, and if a sin or mistake has been committed, must repent and decide not to return to it [1].
