First International Conference on Iraq's Heritage and Monuments to be held soon

The Department of Public Activities of the Imam Hussain Shrine has announced the completion of the preparations for holding the First International Conference on Heritage and Monuments in the city of Karbala.

The director of the department, Ali Kadhim Sultan, said, “The conference aims to protect Iraq’s monuments that go back thousands of years, and to identify the destruction caused to monuments by ISIS.”

He added that there are campaigns attempting to obliterate Iraq’s, the Ahlul-Bayet’s (Peace Be Upon Them), and saints’ (of different religions) monuments.

Sultan noted that 20 countries including Britain, Spain, Italy, Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco will participate in the conference.

He said further that representatives from the European Union and the United Nations, in addition to museum curators will attend the conference and a workshop to discuss the Iraqi antiquities stolen from Iraq.

Sultan concluded that the Imam Hussain Shrine has received 40 thoughtful researches that will participate in the conference, and the conference is determined to kick off on November 25, 2018 and continue for 2 days.
